YANO (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the YANO mobile applications and the website at getyano.com (together, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information so the Service can function:
- Account information. Name, email address, and phone number you provide when you register as a customer or provider.
- Identity verification (sensitive personal information). To confirm identity, our verification partner processes government-issued identification and a facial image, and may compare the two using automated biometric matching. Under the Philippine Data Privacy Act this is sensitive personal information, and we process it only with your consent, which you give when you begin verification. Verification is required for providers before they can accept bookings, and may be required for customers where we have enabled it. If you do not wish to provide this, you may choose not to complete verification, though this will limit use of the Service.
- Booking information. Details of the services you book or offer, including service type, schedule, address or service location, price, and booking status.
- Location information. With your permission, approximate or precise device location to show nearby services and providers and to support service delivery.
- Payment information. Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider. We do not store full card numbers on our servers; we retain transaction records such as amount, date, and status.
- Communications. Messages exchanged between customers and providers through the in-app chat, and any support requests you send us.
- Device and usage data. Basic technical information such as device type, app version, and log data used to operate and improve the Service.
- Notification tokens. If you allow notifications, a device push token so we can alert you about bookings, payments, and messages. You can turn notifications off in your device settings at any time.
- Rewards activity. Points earned and redeemed, coupons issued, and any badges or tier status, so the rewards programme can operate.
- Subscription records. Where you subscribe to an optional paid plan, the plan, its status, and its billing period.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account and provider profile.
- To connect customers with providers and facilitate bookings.
- To verify provider identity and maintain trust and safety.
- To process payments, tips, and provider payouts.
- To enable messaging and notifications related to your bookings.
- To provide customer support and respond to your requests.
- To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, or security issues.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. Sharing of Information
We share information only as needed to operate the Service:
- Between customers and providers. When you make or accept a booking, relevant details (such as name, booking details, and location necessary for the service) are shared with the other party.
- Service providers and partners. With companies that perform services on our behalf, such as identity verification, payment processing, SMS delivery, and cloud hosting, bound by confidentiality obligations.
- Legal reasons. Where required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of YANO, our users, or others.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Data Retention
We keep information only as long as we need it, then delete it or render it anonymous:
- Account information — while your account is open, and up to 12 months after closure to handle disputes and comply with the law.
- Identity verification data — the verification result and date are kept while your account is open. Underlying identity documents and facial images are held by our verification partner under its own retention schedule and are not stored on our servers beyond what is needed to record the outcome.
- Booking and transaction records — retained for the period required by Philippine tax and accounting rules, currently ten years from the end of the relevant year.
- Chat messages — retained for the life of the related booking record, as they may be needed to resolve disputes.
- Notification tokens — until you sign out, disable notifications, or the token stops working.
- Log and usage data — typically up to 12 months.
Where you ask us to delete your account, we remove or anonymise your personal information except where we are legally required to keep it, such as transaction records used for tax purposes.
5. Your Choices and Rights
We operate in the Philippines, and we handle personal information in line with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) and its implementing rules. As a data subject you have the right to:
- Be informed about how your personal information is collected and used.
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Object to processing, or withdraw consent you previously gave, without affecting processing already carried out.
- Erasure or blocking of your information where the law allows.
- Data portability — to obtain a copy of information you provided in a commonly used electronic format.
- Damages for inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, false, or unlawfully obtained information.
- Lodge a complaint with the National Privacy Commission.
Day to day, you can review and update your account information in the app, and control location and notification permissions through your device settings. To exercise any of the rights above, contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable period, and in any case within the timeframes set by law.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the National Privacy Commission at privacy.gov.ph.
6. Why We Are Allowed to Process Your Information
Under the Data Privacy Act, we rely on the following grounds: performance of our contract with you (operating your account and bookings); your consent (identity verification, location, and notifications); compliance with a legal obligation (tax, accounting, and lawful requests); and our legitimate interests in keeping the Service safe, preventing fraud, and improving how it works, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
7. Where Your Information Is Processed
Some of our partners — including identity verification, payment processing, SMS delivery, notification delivery, and hosting — may process information outside the Philippines. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information continues to receive a comparable level of protection, as required by the Data Privacy Act.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed to individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
11. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, want to exercise any of your rights, or wish to reach our Data Protection Officer, contact us at support@getyano.com and mark your message for the attention of the Data Protection Officer. See also our Terms & Conditions.
